April 23rd, 1997 Take Someone's Daughter to HandsNet, which took place on Wednesday, April 23, was a resounding success. Approximately 14 young WITS (Webgrrls in Training) between the age of 8 and 16, learned a little about surfing the web and got help in setting up their very own homepage. The event was the result of yet another cooperative effort between the DC Webgrrls and HandsNet organizations, and corresponded with the larger "Take Your Daughter to Work" day sponsored nationwide by the Ms. Foundation this April. Hilary Silvert gave a PowerPoint presentation which covered the basics of Internet surfing such as URLs, Hypertext links, Search Engines and Bookmarks. Amy DeFalco then walked all the participants through the making of a home page, complete with a digital photo and links to favorite sites on the net. The evening was a great success and needless to say, a good time was had by all! Please visit the Web pages created by our daughters at the workshop. |
