Knowledge Management
We live in a knowledge intensive world. While the web has put worldwide
information at our fingertips, finding what you need, when you need it has
become a time consuming and sometimes even impossible quest. Large
organizations have experts, but it's hard to identify them or connect to
them in a timely manner. Websites and intranets contain millions of pages
and searches return thousands of hits. How do we get a handle on dealing
with everything?
Knowledge management is the art and science of connecting people to peers
and experts and people to needed information to make organizations more
effective. The session provides a basic introduction to knowledge
management as well as covers the following topics:
- Using KM to improve websites and intranets
- Transforming organizational culture to value knowledge sharing
- Starting and nurturing communities of interest and practice
- Looking at DCWEBWOMEN as a knowledge sharing community of practice
- Selecting portals, search, and other km tools
- Maximizing intellectual capital
Join Knowledge Management and Web Consultant, Eileen Buckholtz for a lively
introduction to the hot topic of Knowledge Management. Eileen was selected
as one of the country's top thirty women in Technology by Women in
Technology International (witi.org) in June 2000 and has over twenty-five
years of IT experience with government and business. She is also the author
of over 50 books.
Please join us and bring your knowledge sharing challenges for discussion.
Refreshments will be provided.
