DC Web Women to Participate in Celebration for Women in Aviation & Space

Outreach and Support of Women in Modern Technology Complements DCWW Cause

March 5, 2007 [Washington, DC] — Washington-metro area new media group DC Web Women, a virtual community devoted to encouraging women in new media since the mid 1990s, is proudly participating in the upcoming “Family Day: Celebrate Women in Aviation & Space” event to be held at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport on March 17, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Chantilly, Virginia.

“Although this event primarily highlights the advancement of women in aviation and space, we strongly believe DC Web Women’s presence there will help to underscore the vital importance of women belonging to professional fields of discipline were men have traditionally been dominant,” states Cat Lee, Steering Committee Chair of DC Web Women. “Being a supportive part of an event that spotlights the positive contributions women have made in the aviation and space sectors is something we strongly believe complements our organization’s mission, which is to encourage and support women in new forms of media and technology.”

“In addition to visibly aligning DCWW with such a wonderful, educational forum, DCWW has always aimed to encourage women as well as girls of all ages to reach high no matter what career path they are leaning towards. Having families and their children, particularly daughters, attend the event allows us to foster this very important message to even the youngest of girls,” says Marissa Polsky, Outreach Chair for DC Web Women.

The family-focused event will include hands-on activities, stories for small children and talks with Museum staff about the incredible contributions of women in aviation, science, and aerospace. Event attendants will also hear inspirational stories from members of the Ninety Nines, Women in Aviation, the Society of Women Engineers and DC Web Women. Additionally, participants will enjoy viewing science projects completed by local Girl Scout troops for Girl Scout Day.
