The Power of Color in Your Wardrobe

Kara Alford

My favorite colors are yellow, orange, light blue and baby pink. These also happen to be a few of the colors in my spring color palette. Getting your colors done became all the rage in the 80's when my colleague Carol Jackson wrote Color Me Beautiful. Since then, there have been uprising and return to wearing your colors. Spring, Winter, Autumn and Summer, the four season hold millions of colors for everyone to wear.

Wearing the right color will make you appear younger, healthy and happy, while wearing the wrong colors can make you look tired, washed out, and older. Color is also important for the makeup on our faces and the walls and décor in your house. Check out the list below and find your favorites.

Red symbolizes energy, action, sexuality, and power. Red is also known to stimulate the appetite. Exposure to the color has been said to increase the pulse, raise blood pressure, and boost energy. A person who likes red has a zest for life. Other words associated with red are intense, impulsive, daring, aggressive, and passionate. Red makes you feel empowered, so wear it on a day when you want to make a statement.

Orange is a color of love, happiness and humility. Those who are design conscious and motivated love orange. Influential and independent people are said to wear orange because they are secure in walking down the path least taken. Orange is less passionate and not as intense as red, but still vibrant and warm. Social people, extroverts, and optimists embody the color orange. Wear it to a party when you want everyone to notice you!

Yellow is the color of the sun. It represents regeneration, a new start, a new day. Lovers of yellow are immersed in the spiritual side of life. They make great friends and have happy, outgoing dispositions. They also rend to be creative, artistic, and highly imaginative. Wear yellow on a rainy or gray winter day. It will brighten your mood and everyone around you.

Green Those who love green are lovers of harmony, balance, and money. They are also serious about the details and very meticulous. Green lovers love to eat and sit around and talk about people! Kind and generous are words usually associated with this particular shade. Wear green when you feel under the weather since it is associated with good health.

Blue represents the sky and water. When you want to be relaxed and at peace, submerge yourself in blue. Blue also inspires you to be more productive and reliable. Lovers of blue tend to be wary of new things and people and like to stick to their circle of friends. Wear blue when you need to be calm and cool.

Purple is associated with royalty. Lavender helps you to sleep and relives stress and tension. Purple is sexy and sophisticated. Lovers of purple love beauty and grace and dislike ugliness in any form. The color is also associated with mysticism and artistry. Cleopatra was a great lover of purple. Wear purple when you want to gain respect or when you want to catch the eye of that special someone.

Pink is the most feminine color in the spectrum. Once associated with baby girls and everything cute and cuddly, pink has grown up to be a sophisticated lady. Pink represents sweetness and purity. I love pink! It is the new black. Lovers of pink are romantics and delicate in nature. Wear Pink when you want to feel pretty.

White is associated with light. It is all of the colors together. It symbolizes purity and innocence. It also represents grace, strength, and rebirth. Wear white when you want to be subtle.

Black, the opposite of white, is the absence of color. It is associated with mystery and intrigue. It represents the dark side, the unknown. But it also represents power. Wear black when you want to keep people guessing.

So the next time you put on a vibrant color, keep in mind what you want to present to the world about yourself.
