DC Web Women
Resume Posting Service

In response to requests from many of our members, we now offer a biweekly resume service. In order to help you locate that dream job, our Resume Wrangler will post your resume to the mailing list. This lets you get exposed to numerous potential employers, contacts, and interested parties, while at the same time cuts down on list traffic. So far, it's been a tremendous asset to our community.

How to submit your resume

First read through the RESUME POSTING GUIDELINES.

Then email your resume in ASCII text format to resumes@dcwebwomen.org.

Please include a one-sentence objective at the beginning of your resume that explains what kind of job you are looking for (design, systems administration, marketing, tech support, graphics).

This will get included at the top of the posting with your name, so that it's easier to make a match with your new employer.

Submission Deadlines

Resumes are accepted all week and are posted on Fridays. Resumes received on Friday will be posted the following week.

**Disclaimer & Caveat - READ THIS FIRST!**

The DCWW resume posting service is available only to DCWW members.

We have no control over where your resume may end up. Your current employer may see it, your coworkers may see it. Your resume is included in our on-line archives. Do not include your home telephone number or address if you are not comfortable with it appearing on-line.

There is a $75 charge by our hosting service for altering the database in which all postings are kept. If you wish to pay the charge, your resume can be removed from the DCWW database. However, that will not remove it from the Internet.

DCWW has no control over the Internet as a whole. For example, web postings are stored by the Internet Archives. Also, Google caches pages, even those that have been removed from sites. Do not use the resume posting service if you are not comfortable with your resume appearing on-line.

RESUME POSTING GUIDELINES

  1. Please keep your resume to one page. If you have lots more information, please put it on the web and include the URL in the resume.

  2. Include a one-sentence objective at the beginning of your resume that explains what kind of job you are looking for (design, systems administration, marketing, tech support, graphics).

  3. Only members of DCWW may post their resumes.

  4. This is a listing for resumes only. ** DO NOT **send ads for goods, consulting, marketing plans, or freelance work. Please post all job listings to the list directly.

  5. Save a copy of your resume in text format. [Please read the instructions below.]

  6. Name your resume resume_yourfirstinitialyourlname.txt [i.e.: resume_jsmith.txt] Please do this so that your resume will not overwrite someone else's resume.

  7. Send your resume as an attachment to resumes@dcwebwomen.org with RESUME in the subject line.

    Beware the REPLY command.

  8. Do not send documents with html tags.

A NOTE ABOUT MAKING TEXT FILES THAT WORK:

  • Use a text editor, like Notepad, HomeSite, BBEdit, vi or emacs. (make sure you turn off text wrap) If you need to use Word, or other word processing programs, make sure you save as text with line breaks.
  • Make sure that there is a hard return after each line. [Especially Word users]
  • Keep your line lengths to about 50 characters.
CAN YOU GET A COPY OF THE COMPILED LIST?

Yes. It will be posted to the entire DCWW list.

WHY ARE WE SO FUSSY?
  • Not everyone has forgiving mail clients that handle formatted documents and wrapped lines. You will ensure that everyone can read your resume.
  • Not everyone works on the same platform.
  • We use PINE on UNIX, which does not lend itself to cut and paste, or handling non-text files.
QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?

Send 'em to resumes@dcwebwomen.org.
