Member Spotlight: Anne Kobus
It's easy to see why Anne was chosen as the member to highlight this month
-- she's a savvy businesswoman, a development guru, a marathon runner, AND
she's a mother of four!
Anne is currently Executive Producer at Interactive Development Corporation
(IDEV) in Silver Spring. IDEV (http://www.idev.com) is a full life-cycle
online development company. In her role as Executive Producer, Anne is
responsible for supervising the production and graphic design staffs while
providing senior-level consulting services to clients, in addition to
serving on IDEV's executive committee. IDEV is exploding along with the
rising tide of e-business: from ten employees a year ago, they now boast 28
and project to nearly double that in the coming year. Anne is enjoying the
excitement and likes the challenges of participating in the executive
committee of a hot development company.
Before joining IDEV, Anne made her mark as the founding Director of the
Networked Media Center (http://nmc.georgetown.edu) at Georgetown University.
The Networked Media Center is a division of the Communication, Culture and
Technology graduate program designed to provide continuing education and
hands-on training in interactive technology. Thanks to Anne's hard work and
innovation, lots of Web Women, from the newbies to the divas, have been able
to get the training and extra edge they've needed to stay on top of the new
media game.
Like many of us in new media, Anne's background covers a broad spectrum of
interactive media and design. She has a degree in Architecture and practiced
this art until she and her husband began their family in the early 80's.
With great support from her husband, Anne split her time between her family
and teaching high school technical drawing classes, and later studying CAD
and 3-D animation. By the early 1990's, she had her own 3-D animation
consulting business -- and four children!
Her growing interest and talent in the burgeoning interactive environment
drew Anne to The New Media Group (http://www.tnmg.com), and then to On-Line
Communications, Inc., where she served as Vice President for Interactive
Services. These positions and her directorship of the Networked Media Center
helped Anne develop her skills in project and staff management, but her love
of development eventually lead her to IDEV where she enjoys a mix of the
two.
In addition to her work, Anne somehow manages to keep up with her four
children, ages 11 through 16, and to squeeze in weightlifting and running to
keep in shape (as if four kids aren't enough!). She credits this
wonder-woman ability to her husband's superhuman household management
skills, a topic she visited when speaking before the Women Opening Doors for
Women event last summer.
You might ask: what has this wrrl NOT done? Well, she doesn't have a
personal web site, but we can forgive her for that since she's been integral
in the development of so many outstanding examples:
http://www.ms.foundation.org (through her role in the development of this
site, Anne met with Gloria Steinem!)
http://www.stuartweitzman.com (see his shoes on the Millennium Vogue cover)
http://www.ultrastar.cncweb.com/bowie/history/outside/chars.htm (David
Bowie's site)
And, she has been good enough to share with us some of the sites that help
keep her on top of her game:
