Heidi Strom Moon

Member Spotlight: Heidi Strom Moon

Heidi Strom Moon set out to be a print journalist but soon discovered, "Newspapers don't pay much, and the web is a lot more fun." Right now she is having fun as a project manager at CDG Solutions, a print and web design and development agency in downtown DC. Their client list includes The Ms. Foundation, Fannie Mae, Cable & Wireless, and the American Chemical Society.

Heidi works alongside a former coworker from her previous life as a producer at a Silver Spring web development agency that has since been acquired. Before that she was webmaster at the American Nurses Association, a producer at a Digital City in Hampton Roads, Virginia, and a copyeditor and page designer at the newspaper that owned Digital City.

Some of the sites she has had a hand in include

Heidi attended college in a world without email and the web, two of the many things she is now proficient in. She was a communications major at Tulane and graduated two years before the first Netscape was unleashed on the web, launching the commercial World Wide Web. Heidi's first exposure to the Internet was in ’93 when her then-boyfriend Ken (now husband) got an account through his graduate school. They dialed up on a 14.4 modem to gopher to file sites.

While Heidi's bookmark file is huge, she only uses it for utility sites. Instead, she relies on the Google utility bar installed in IE5.5. or guesses domain names and types the URL directly.

Her favorite reference sites are

For shopping, one of her favorite pastimes, she visits

In addition to shopping, Heidi enjoys fashion, movies, TV, books, popular culture, and travel. When she is not perfecting her tae kwon do, you may find her walking. In the winter she takes off for the ski slopes.

But there is much more to Heidi than work and play. She volunteers for the mentor program for Asian American LEAD, a nonprofit seeking to improve the lives of Asian immigrants, particularly Vietnamese, in DC. And of course she is a member of the DC Web Women's Executive Board, having served in the past in various positions including program co-chair.

Her future plans are to garden with a vengeance in her new house. She shares it with her husband, Ken, aka the Destroyer of Evil (DOE), and two cats, Tigger (bad and male), and Sam (good and female). For more on Heidi, her house cats and husband, visit her home page: http://www.heidizone.com/.
